What is an AI-native CRM?
An AI-native CRM is built around AI that captures data and answers questions, instead of AI bolted onto an old system. Here is how to tell the difference.

AI-native CRM
An AI-native CRM is customer software designed from the start around AI: it captures calls and email on its own, fills in records, and answers questions in plain words. It is the opposite of an older CRM with an AI feature added on top.
The label gets used loosely, so here is a test. Ask who does the typing. In a traditional CRM, the rep does. In an AI-native one, the system does most of it and the rep checks the result.
Why it matters
A CRM is only useful when it is full. Reps are busy, so the records go stale, and the pipeline report stops matching reality. The fix is not a stricter rule about logging calls. It is software that logs them for you.
AI-native versus AI bolted on
An older CRM that adds an assistant usually puts it in a side panel. It may write an email draft, but the data underneath is still typed by hand. An AI-native CRM changes how data gets in.
Look for five things:
- Capture. Meetings, email and messages are recorded and attached to the account without a rep copying them.
- Summaries. A call turns into a short summary with action items.
- Autofill. Fields such as budget, product interest or next step are filled in from the conversation.
- Questions in plain words. You ask "which quotes are still open for this account?" and get the answer, with no report to build.
- An open connection to your AI tools. Through MCP, an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT can read and write CRM records.
An example from product sales
A rep for a plastics distributor finishes a call with a buyer who needs two grades of polypropylene by the end of the month. In a bolted-on setup, the rep writes notes tonight, maybe. In an AI-native CRM, the recording is already on the account, the summary lists both grades and the delivery date, and the fields are filled in. The rep asks, "What did this buyer say about price last time?" and gets an answer from the history.
What AI-native does not mean
It does not mean the AI sells for you or decides your forecast. The rep stays in charge, reviews what was filled in, and sends the email. Be wary of any vendor that promises more than that.

How PromptLab handles it
PromptLab records meetings on Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, in 100+ languages, and writes the summary, a follow-up email draft and a pre-meeting brief. CRM autofill fills in fields from calls. Email from Gmail, Outlook or IMAP is captured, and Ask AI answers questions about accounts, deals, quotes, sales orders, meetings and email.

Frequently asked questions
Is an AI-native CRM the same as an AI CRM?
Not always. "AI CRM" often means any CRM with an AI feature. "AI-native" means AI shapes how data is captured and used from the start.
Does an AI-native CRM replace sales reps?
No. It removes data entry and lookup work. The rep still talks to the buyer, makes the offer and closes the deal.
Can I keep my AI assistant and my CRM separate?
You can, but then you copy and paste between them. Connecting them over MCP lets the assistant work with your real records.
Is my data safe with AI features?
Check each vendor's own security pages. PromptLab's Enterprise plan adds SSO and advanced security.
